Mimi, read "Throw out 50 Things" by Gaile Blanke. I am reading it now and it is really helping with some of the Emotional Clutter as well as the house clutter - tho you can't tell it by looking!

Thank you, Bonnie.

And have you ever noticed that so much of clutter is just junk? A waste of our resources to make. A waste of money to buy.

Mimi, I am relatively new to your circle so I do not know about your tragic loss yet I feel sorrow for you. Grief can be such a soul-destroying emotion. I am glad you are finding your way to a better place, with greater peace.

I stumbled in here because I wish I had the guts to live a totally minimalist lifestyle. I try not to clutter too much, but it does accumulate, doesn't it? One of the things that I always think about when in this mindset is the tremendous waste and environmental impact of all those cleaning products we consume while trying to take care of all that clutter. It simply amazes me.

Paula, I cannot seem to part with books. Plus, they just don't look like clutter to me. :)

Carrie, sometimes, as soon as I get rid of something, I'll need it. ...We do try to keep what might be useful later, and my hubby is about my opposite. He loves his stuff. :)

This may sound silly compared to what you are getting rid of, but I am going through my massive collection of books right now and getting rid of some that I have had for 30 years or more. Even though I haven't read them in a very long time, it is still wrenching to let them go.

However, on the other hand, it feels good to let them go and get rid of the clutter and baggage.

Part of the human need for stability and resistance to change I guess.

I always feel good after a de-clutter although it doesn't take long for things to clutter up again! I tend to hold onto things because they're familiar so therefore give me a sense of security or I think I might need them at some point, but I never do :)

Yes, yes, yes, Mimi! The "things" we are emotionally attached to are the most difficult to release. But oh what miracles await us when we do finally do that!
And why do we so firmly attach human beings to "things"? Those who have gone on ahead of us live inside of us, not in those "things".
I think I need to build a bonfire today!

Hi! Minimalist in furniture is elegance and style. Shaker is awesome.
I don't think minimalist all over, as a rule of life, but in furniture, I definitely do!
Thanks
Mimi
