WIN: What’s Important Now

February 1st, 2010 · 19 Comments

The new year started with a lot of hope for making this the year to get my online life organized. This has proven to be a very hard thing to do.

I had my daily strategy ready to go for 2010, and even though I knew it looked impossible on paper, I was determined to make a go of it. But, the bloom is now officially off the rose. Reality has reared its “I told you so” head!

Facing the truth is hard when you have goals. But, reality, and a sane life, dictate that I get in gear and reassess what is really important — or spend the next 11 months floundering as before.

The acronym WIN fits in well here. What’s Important Now? So, I am going to re-group in the next few days. Really see what it is that I want to do and need to do. Yes, what one wants is just as important as what one needs in this case. We don’t want things to be all work and no play, do we?

And this topic fits in so well with a minimalist lifestyle. What things do you really need in your life? What do you really want to keep? How can you keep your stuff organized so that it doesn’t interfere with your inner peace? How can you balance your life? What’s Important Now?

Do you need a second-month reassessment of your goals and strategies? Are you going to let a month’s trying go down in history as another year of not meeting your needs and goals? Is 2010 going to end with just an empty renewal of your last-year’s goals? Or are you going to re-group, move forward, and keep striving?

Think “What’s Important Now?” Keep going. Never give up.

So tell me. How are you doing? Having some doubts? Feeling the overload? Or better yet, are you making progress?

MiMi, No doubt about it–We can’t be all things to all people or even to some of the people some of the time IF we aren’t there for ourselves, first!

I have high hopes and aspirations for 2010, yet also know that I need to celebrate routinely. Natural Celebrations, may I add.

I love my computer but my body tells me to move around and breathe the clean air.

    I am happier for it.

Thanks for the WIN acronym! It’s a great way to focus in on the moment rather then stewing over the whole picture, getting caught up in not meeting a personal goal. Actually it’s a great way to start and end my day.

How can we know what progress we are making (if any) if we do not step back from time to time and take a look? I know I still have a tough row to hoe, but I see glimmers that are getting brighter all the time.

“Damn the torpedoes! Full steam ahead!”

Yep, when your body tells you that, it’s saying “What’s Important Now?” and you are wise to heed its call. :)

Yeah, that step back showed me that my seeds were last year’s.

    But! Never give up! :D

The only progress I have made in my online adventures is joining Crabbybeach and Professional Squids. My brain tells me that, I should be so much further by now and maybe I should give up. My heart tells me, it is going to come together and I am doing the right thing. The brain has been programmed to believe certain things, but the heart has no boundaries.

So, I am not giving up! Yeah, mistakes will be made, but I made mistakes learning other things and learned from them. The same applies here.

Yes indeed! February is the month to look hard at all those “pie in the sky” goals we made on January 1! I am reassessing now, and yes, I will get outside more and off the computer more often. And then I will reassess in April, June and November, too. It’s a constant sifting and shifting for me!

The problem for me, that there are so many things which are important for me: write Squidoo lenses, write blog posts, take photographs (ok, can wait till the weather is better), write articles for ezines, read books, listen to music, clean flat… time is limited, though. So the question is: which of the things which are important for me, are most important?

I’m trying to get my house and my “other” life in order. We’re not making much progress because we keep having medical emergencies. My online world is pretty straight, but while I sit in the hospital with the laptop, I am trying to tweak things and branch out a little.

I keep saying, “It will get better.”, and gradually we’re making progress.

That’s right, Kim. Never give up. Much success, and you know you have a lot of folks behind you — here and at Professional Squids.

Joan, that is an apt phrase. Pie in the sky. LOL So much to do and so little time! Will keep assessing. :)

Ulla, with a busy life, the acronym is very useful when you are feeling bogged down. For that moment think ‘what’s important now,’ and work on that. Some things we just have to do or have in our lives. Couldn’t stand it if I had to give up reading!

  • Carolan // Feb 4th 2010 at 7:34 pm

Agree with Ulla that SO many things are in my ‘what’s important now?’ that am easily overwhelmed by it all. Priorities. Crabbysbeach is definitely a WIN right now for me. :-)

Aww. Yvonne. In 2008, my husband was transferred to an out-of-town hospital for surgery, and the laptop was what kept me sane. I started not to take it, but it sure was good to get stuff done and to concentrate on that instead of sitting around dreaming up every kind of scenario for the outcome of surgery. Yes, things do get better, and I wish that for you and yours right now!

And thank you for creating and sharing this image, Correen! http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i249/clouda9/Blog/WIN.png

It’s raining today in Southern California, a fairly rare occurrence. Liquid sunshine. I was observing squalls drift by just before I sat down at my computer. My computer captain’s chair also commands an observation port of a window.

Sometime ago I came to a realization that I am not enjoying events. I soon tire of events. I am relishing change.

I get as tired of one perfect day after another as a week with sullen rain, or as I imagine three days snowed in. Seasonal changes invigorate, but on too slow a cycle. That is perhaps why I live by the ocean, Finding change, straddling the border, land meeting sea in a constant frolic of exchange.

Pools are pleasurable too, for a short while.

noticed this got on the wrong post. I meant to put it on the seasonal and pool post. Ah well.

For reality though, I am going through my own season of change, attacking new opportunities, weeding out some failures. I also put myself off meds from a health problem three years ago, feeling much more motivated – losing 12 pounds immediately. A new season awaits.

Time for a celebratory saunter down the beach.

Allan, thank you for posting. Pools stay fresh for me because they don’t have waves, salt, or big ol’ catfish swimming down beneath my feet. :D (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/06/photogalleries/giantcatfish/images/primary/catfish1.jpg)

Your observation is so true. We do get tired of the same thing. We mentally need seasonal changes. …I do believe that nature thought everything through to the last detail. :)

That is great news. Reassessing and culling. Hope you enjoyed that beach saunter. :)
